New Policy for Joint Centralized Admission Tests (JCAT) for MS, MD, and MDS programs in Punjab

To enhance the quality and international credibility of postgraduate clinical programs in Punjab, the Inter-University Board has decided to introduce speciality-specific Joint Centralized Admission Tests (JCATs) for MS, MD, and MDS programs. This decision, taken on April 22, and 9th May 2024 aims to standardize these programs across various medical universities in the province.
Key Highlights:
  • Speciality-specific JCATs will replace the common test for all specialities starting from the next induction cycle.
  • Passing criteria raised from 60% to 75%.
  • 11 different postgraduate specialities will have separate admission tests, including anesthesiology, obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology, radiology, psychiatry, ENT, medicine and allied, surgery and allied, community medicine, pathology, and dentistry.
  • King Edward Medical University Lahore will conduct the subject-specific admission tests.
  • For October 2024 following 9 specialities will be announced:
    1. Medicine & Allied
    2. Surgery & Allied
    3. Obstetrics & Gynecology
    4. Anesthesiology
    5. Ophthalmology
    6. Diagnostic Radiology
    7. Psychiatry
    8. Oto-Rhino-Laryngology (ENT)
    9. Dentistry
    10. Note: Physiology, Community Medicine, and Pathology will be announced once Universities start induction in this.
  • Important: Common JCAT is applicable for July 2024 induction only. After that, a speciality wise-test will be applicable.
  • Specialty Advisory Committees will formulate the syllabi for these tests, incorporating specific topics from basic medical sciences.
  • Syllabi will undergo review by medical university syndicates for approval.
